Computerization

Computerization of maintenance work orders and automation of PM schedules was first developed in the late 1960s. The software packages have been named CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, usually spelled out but occasionally referred to phonetically as sims). Since then, through all the generations of computer hardware and operation systems, the packages have become more powerful and (for the most part) less expensive.
