Abstract
In today’s highly competitive worldwide market, manufacturing industries are constantly looking for innovative ways to reduce lead times and to address customization in new product developments that fulfils client’s requirements, including product quality, cost, and aesthetics. Customer demand for newer items with better features is forcing manufacturers to embrace digital technologies. Product and services mass customization is chosen over bulk production. Businesses are under greater pressure to serve a single consumer at a cost comparable to mass production, with the quickest feasible development time and manufacturing by focusing on degrees of customization, quality, and performance, as well as competitive price and value. From the past 50 years, with the advancements made in Information Technology, Material Science, Production Technologies and Supply Chain Strategies manufacturers are well positioned to challenge the traditional methods by which products are designed and manufactured.
