Internet Communication and Control

Abstract

The Ethernet communication protocol is evaluated, introducing the Manchester encoding method. Local and wide area networks are discussed and a number of Internet protocol concepts are introduced, particularly the use of IP addresses for configuring and sharing data over a network. Examples of Ethernet network access to mbed files, variables, and output settings are demonstrated, implementing a number of bespoke mbed libraries and the official mbed Real-Time Operating System. Configuring the mbed as a HTTP server and client is demonstrated, as well as implementing remote procedure calls for controlling mbed data and outputs over the Internet.
