This chapter introduces the basic elements needed for enterprise architecting: the scope of the enterprise, the high-level architecting process, and the types of data involved and their relationships. The scope of the enterprise being architected can range from very large, multimission enterprises such as a federal department to single-business-process, solution-oriented enterprises.
