After hiring around forty designers in
the three studios he built, Mark Ury
has quite a good idea about the quali-
ties he wants in a designer:
“You look for curiosity, language skills,
and craftsmanship. Those are the
three that matter, and in that order. If
they aren't curious, they won't dis-
cover things others can't see. If they
can't verbalize what they've seen or
their ideas on why it's important, they
can't sell the solution. And if they
don't have the craft skills, they can't
deliver what they promised.”
