Hand Proportions

The hand is a complex, very movable part of the body. It is divided into three sections: the palm, the fingers (as a group) and the thumb.

Each finger is a slightly different length. However, by focusing on the smallest finger, we can establish some useful guidelines for ourselves in the form of a double square. You will find that the width of the palm is equal to its length. You will also find that the length of the little finger from the tip to the knuckle is equal to the length of the palm. So, accordingly, the length of the little finger will be equal to the width of the palm.
