Conté pencil is another excellent medium to try for your drawings. The greasier binder means that you can get very sharp lines and very dark darks that will hold. But be careful—Conté is very difficult to erase, so start lightly.

With the model’s right thigh in mid-flexion, you can easily trace the arc that it would make when fully rotated in the hip socket. Note how that compares to the position of the model’s left thigh, which rests at a typical angle for the seated figure.
