Comparison is the Death of Joy.
In this chapter the concept of social comparisons is discussed. While comparisons with others often can provide helpful information about ourselves and our ideas, comparisons can also have a negative side. Research, in fact, has shown that the more we compare with others, the less good we often end up feeling about ourselves. This is particularly true if the comparisons are made in an attempt to validate our sense of worth or to provide standards against which to measure our own success.
