Negotiating ethics within a memorandum of understanding (MOU)

Chapters 8 and 9 both focus on research ethics but from different starting points. In Chapter 9 the starting point for ethics begins when generating a hypothetical research proposal for a formal ethics review committee. In this chapter, there is no discussion of formal ethics review. The multistage task here has the researcher interrogate their ethical assumptions while attempting to gain access to a social agency without first going through a formal ethics review.

This chapter’s brief is simple: concoct a hypothetical study based on a social agency the reader has had no previous contact with. The choices could be, but are not limited to:
