When do I set a second-fault trap?

The question arises: I just had a major problem and some diagnostic data was captured when the problem occurred. I don't immediately have an explanation as to the root cause of the problem. How long should I wait while I examine the diagnostic data before I start planning to implement a "trap" to capture data with the second fault tool? If I wait too long, then the problem could re-occur in production, and I will have missed that opportunity to collect diagnostic data. You don't want to do that.

This really requires some true personal multi-tasking, and balancing your use of your time. You want to be able to set up the trap to "catch" the problem with a means of collecting more and better diagnostic data, before ...
