The Fuck-Up…
If you were designing a building, one of your first steps would be to outline it to make sure it fit on the plot of land. After you had that broad outline, you would work your way in, gradually getting to smaller and smaller details: what the lobby will look like, how big the rooms can be, right down to where to put the electrical sockets. It is unlikely that you would start with the electrical sockets and work your way out from there, and simply pray that when you got to the end, the building would somehow all fit on the lot.
