In this Part, we climb down from the high level of what stakeholders want to the concrete level of the five core metrics that support the intelligence that satisfies these needs:
1. schedule time
2. effort (person-months)
3. functionality (amount of work, often expressed in size)
4. defect rate
5. process productivity
Our first goal is to define each of these five metrics, enabling us to deal with them mathematically.
