Keyframes & Inbetweens
In animation and filmmaking, keyframes, or extremes, serve as the defining points of a determinate action. They are the most important drawings in an animation because they define a movement’s outcome. Keyframes are essential for estimating the amount of time an action will take.
Inbetweens are the frames or drawings between two keyframes. Their purpose is to smooth the animation and produce the illusion of movement. 2D animators can vary the timing (and consequently the mood) of an action by adding or subtracting inbetween drawings.
