With hand-drawn animation, there are two methods for animating an action: straight-ahead and pose-to-pose. The straight-ahead method starts with a single drawing that is animated frame by frame until the sequence is complete. Pose-to-pose animation involves mapping out the sequence in advance, using at least two keyframes, and adding inbetweens later. Straight-ahead animation looks more fluid and creates spontaneous results, whereas pose-to-pose animation is more precise and essential for actions requiring specific poses and timing. This exercise uses straight-ahead animated sequence.
