Properties of Standard Atmosphere

Atmosphere is divided into five regions shown in Fig. 1.3.3. These regions are: troposphere, Stratosphere, Mesosphere, ionosphere, and exosphere. The limits of the various regions shown in figure are approximate and vary with altitude, time and season.

Approximate physical properties of some common fluids at standard atmospheric pressure 760 mm Hg and temperature 0°C are given at table B.1 and B.2.

Troposphere. This region extends up to 11 km from the mean sea level in which the temperature decreases with altitude uniformly at the rate of 6.5°C per km.
