Properties of Polychlorotrifluoroethylene

Abstract

The properties of polychlorotrifluoroethylene (PCTFE) depend on the processing conditions in addition to its molecular structure and composition. PCTFE is exposed to heat during fabrication processing, which invariably results in its degradation to some extent. Its molecular weight is reduced as a result of exposure to processing temperatures resulting in a decline in the mechanical properties of the polymer. Thus, it is important to take the issue of degradation into account when designing parts and processes.
