YOU MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT IN CHAPTER 10 I placed special emphasis on a number of people: friends; Charles, who coached the fictional Jeff Gardner; and Morgan Stanley’s John Mack. This emphasis was deliberate. We cannot escape the traps that snare us unless we have people who can help us find a way out. It is our network of support that allows us to muster the courage to confront our anxieties and be sufficiently open and honest.
