11Introduction
have almost entirely been on the laboratory scale and have tended to fall into
three categories:
1. The investigation of systems stabilized by organic surfactants to
demonstrate one feature or another of the general foam fractionation
process
2. The application of foam fractionation to process solutions containing
amphipathic biological species such as enzymes or proteins
3. The recovery of metal ions in the process commonly known as “ion
otation”
It is not the intention of this section to provide a comprehensive survey of
every study that has been undertaken on foam fractionation, but rather to
