13.1 Editing a Portfolio
A carefully edited portfolio allows you to present your strongest work to a targeted audience. Begin by asking yourself who your intended audience is. Are you trying to reach editors, architects, interior design, hospitality, or the fine art market? What types of image is your target audience most likely to respond to? If you are editing for an architecture portfolio make sure the work is appropriate for the intended audience. Don’t show travel photography unless it’s architecture specific. Don’t show portraits—save those for a separate portfolio if that is part of your practice. Present your audience with images related to the content they would potentially commission.
