Authorised EU health claims for xylitol and sugar-free chewing gum (SFCG)

Abstract:

The sugar replacers currently permitted in EU-approved health claims for sugar-free chewing gum (SFCG) include intense sweeteners (such as aspartame and sucralose), erythritol, xylitol, sorbitol, mannitol, maltitol, lactitol, isomalt, polydextrose, D-tagatose and isomaltulose. Article 13.1 states for SFCG three claims related to tooth mineralisation, neutralisation of plaque acids, and reduction of oral dryness, and a fourth claim for SFCG with carbamide concerning neutralisation of plaque acids.
