In Appendix D the concept using cones to determine the dynamic behavior both of a homogeneous halfspace and of a layer on a halfspace, discussed extensively in the text, is generalized to the case of a layered halfspace. This permits the dynamic-stiffness coefficient for each degree of freedom to be determined for a foundation on the surface of, or embedded in, a layered soil halfspace.
