Abstract
We present an analytical evaluation of the performance of several recursive
query evaluation strategies on a set of four queries, over a range of data. We
derive expressions for the cost of each strategy, using a simple model to
characterize the data, plot these costs for specific configurations of the data,
and discuss the results. We identify three important factors which influence the
performance of these strategies.
