a generator and its load does not affect the voltage and current at the
load terminals—they are still the same as at the generator—it does
affect their phase. The mere fact that the voltage across R in Fig.
16.3b is equal to the voltage across the terminals makes that
inevitable, as one can soon see by drawing phasor diagrams. Fig.

(b) are drawn by beginning at the load R and working backwards.
