18.11 Detector Distortion
In discussing rectifiers we noted that they had to be non-linear
conductors in order to rectify, but that if the non-linearity consisted
of a sharp corner between two straight portions (e.g., COB in Fig.
18.2),
the rectifier itself could be described as linear (e.g. COB in Fig.
18.4).
And that no real rectifiers have perfectly sharp bends, so all
are more or less non-linear. Now that we have seen the details of
complete detector circuits we are returning to this topic, to consider
how to ensure that the non-linearity is less rather than more.
