In general the deflection coils have both resistance and
inductance, so if a in Fig. 23.8 is the required deflection current the
part of the applied voltage needed for the coil resistance would have
the form shown at b, the part needed for the inductance at c, and the
total applied voltage at d. Quite a large amount of ingenuity has been
expended on means for economically generating acceptable
approximations to the ideal waveform ...
