4 Combinational Logic

4.1 Introduction

This chapter takes a broad view of logic design and studies the design of combinational logic networks for implementation in FPGA fabrics. There are many ways to implement any combinational logic function. Logic design is guided by the requirements imposed on the implementation, such as performance and power. To design fast, energy-efficient logic, we need to understand some basic principles about logic design in general, FPGA logic in particular, and the languages and tools we use to design logic.
