While I haven't used press releases very often myself in my own business, I can tell you that even a press release that is completely ignored by major media outlets can still be a great source of traffic and back links for your website. This is because press releases that are submitted online are often archived and then posted permanently on major search engines. Depending on which press release service you use, this could generate a very high quality back link for your website. You should pay special attention to the keywords that you use in your article so that the search engines can detect and reward you for the content.

Also pay special attention to the title that you choose for your press release. Remember, a press release is a news story, it's not a sales pitch. For this reason the first paragraph of your press release needs to answer the major questions that every reporter is expecting to see. Answer the who, what, when, where, and why questions first.
