As long ago as 1998, STM publishers began to move their primary content (their journals) online. It was a Web 1.0 publisher-centric model where customers were also the content providers. From 2008, and with the advent of OA models, the customer started to become the ‘content distributor’ (Spong, 2009), and this fundamental change of mind appeared for many people like the beginning of a new scientific communication era.
