Advanced Editing Commands
It’s time to expand your editing skills beyond Append edits, Insert edits, and Connect edits. There are two more types of edits that that can help you fine-tune a show: the Overwrite edit and the Replace edit. At first blush, they both sound pretty similar, and they are. But there is one distinct difference—timing.
Overwrite Edit
The Overwrite edit is a precise edit based on time. You can set the time in the Event Browser by selecting a clip’s range (with In and Out points) or in the Timeline (with In and Out points). Unlike an Insert edit or Append edit, an Overwrite edit will not make your show any longer. The new media deletes the selected range in your Timeline and replaces it with new media.
