Machining Process Selection
16.1 Introduction
Machining covers a wide range of aspects that should be understood for
proper understanding and selection of a given process. The main objective
is to utilize the selected process to machine the component economically
and at a high rate of production. Parts should also be machined at levels
of accuracy, surface texture, and surface integrity that satisfy the product
designer and avoid the need for post-machining and maintain acceptable
machining costs. Selecting a machining process is related to many factors
that are shown in Figure 16.1.
