Effect of speed: Generally, higher cutting speeds are used for honing met-
als that shear easily such as cast iron and nonferrous materials. The hon-
ing speed should be decreased when the contact area between grains and
the bore increases. Higher speeds produce ne surface nish and raise the
removal rate (Figure 9.10). It decreases the dimensional accuracy, overheats
the workpiece, and dulls the abrasives. Table 9.2 shows the rotary and recip-
