and bladder. There are distinct cold- and heat-sensitive areas on the skin,
with at least five times more cold-sensitive spots. Local temperature controls
the opening of ion channels in these sensors’ membranes, leading to action
potentials generated at a certain frequency. As the temperature of an area
changes, the action potential frequency changes.
