Chapter 7: Transactional Replication – the Subscription

In Chapter 6, you learned about the security considerations to take into account before creating a subscription. Now it's time to actually set up that subscription. A subscription's main purpose is to specify the database that the recorded changes will be applied to. Although you can define a publication without a subscription, the publication can live up to its potential only if there is a subscription in place. In fact, you can implement multiple subscriptions for a single publication.

A SQL Server instance that has a subscription defined in one of its databases is called a Subscriber. The Subscriber hosts the subscription database to which the published changes are applied.
