Chapter 10: Merge Replication – the Publication

Merge replication, like transactional replication, involves a Distributor, a Publisher, and one or more Subscribers. On each Publisher, you can define one or more publications. Those publications can include merge publications, transactional publications, snapshot publications, or any combination of the three. As with transactional replication, merge replication requires that the articles in a publication reside in a single database.
