ABSTRACT: We investigate the cell density that maximizes capacity in mobile cellular networks.The study is
based on system-level simulations. The results show different trends for downlink and uplink performance when
continuously adding cells within open areas. For the downlink of WCDMA/HSPA, the system performance
deteriorates for inter-site distances below 200 meters. Careful considerations have to be taken if an operator
