Glossary of G Suite Terms

2-step verification:

A Google security feature that requires two separate actions — such as signing in with your account credentials and entering a verification code sent to a mobile device — before you can access your account.

absolute cell reference:

A cell reference where Sheets uses the actual address of the cell.

active cell:

The currently selected cell, which Sheets designates by surrounding the cell with a heavy border and by displaying a small square in the bottom-right corner.

animation:

See object animation.

all-day event:

A Calendar event that either has no set time or that consumes one or more entire days (such as a birthday or a vacation).

attachment:

A file sent along with an email message.

auto-complete:

To show a list of items — such as names or email addresses — that match what you've entered so far into a text box. You can then select the item you want from the list rather than finishing the text entry.

back channel:

An informal communications channel that operates in addition to the main channel of communications in a meeting. In a Google Meet video meeting, participants can use the Chat feature as the back channel.

A copy of an email message sent to a recipient without that recipient's name or address appearing anywhere in the message.

bot:

Software that can be added to a chat and that has been programmed to respond to specific phrases, questions, or events.
