Artificial intelligence can sound both fascinating and scary to those looking to better understand the technology. We often miss the realization that the bulk of a workforce does not need to code; just understand the techniques conceptually. This chapter attempts to achieve the latter for the reader by unlocking the basics of AI and the rationale underlying its many techniques in use today. Starting with augmented statistics, we will see how each technique serves as a foundation for something more complex, eventually leading to the advanced human-like capabilities that mesmerize us today.
