Patches on the extremities such as on snout, ears and paws in the Himalayan rabbit and Siamese cat in the form of dark fur is due to temperature-sensitive genes of pigment synthesis. At a lower temperature, enzyme on extremities is more active compared to other parts of the body where the enzyme is inactive due to high temperature.
