Geothermal Power Plants in Nevada, USA

The state of Nevada lies within the Basin and Range geologic province. As such, across the state one encounters a succession of mountain ranges and valleys, generally oriented north-south or NNE-SSW. It has been shown that all the high-temperature systems (>160°C) and many moderate-temperature ones (100–160°C) reside within two structurally controlled belts that span the state along SW-NE axes: the Black Rock Desert and the Humboldt structural zone. Two other belts exist on either side of these that encompass geothermal systems in the adjacent states of California, Oregon, Idaho, and Utah.
