Abstract

Iceland has the highest per capita concentration of geothermal energy of any country in the world. Geothermal energy contributes 62% of Iceland’s primary energy needs. This chapter reviews the geology of Iceland that is responsible for the abundant geothermal resources in the country and continues on to discuss the Nesjavellir and Hellisheidi plants in the country.
