As autumn approaches, it’s time to think about breeding your goats.

Although some goats—like the popular Nigerian Dwarf and Pygmy breeds—can breed year round, the majority of goats breed in the fall. There is natural logic to this cycle: goats that breed in the fall will give birth to kids in the spring. The newborns have six months of good weather and plentiful food before facing the harsh, lean winter.
