CHAPTER 5: Provocateurs Disrupt Organizational Momentum

In Chapter 2, I explained the organizational momentum that causes people to set up hidden data factories. It is pretty basic. They encounter errors in the data they need to do their work and so they make corrections. It doesn’t occur to them that they should reach back to the data creators. In time, dealing with errors just becomes a fact of business life. The dynamic occurs at the individual, work team, department, and company level. Left unchecked, hidden data factories pop up all over, virtually littering a company.

This is where provocateurs come in. They disrupt that momentum.
