# Exercise 5.1

We are going to apply several commands presented in this chapter to a metal plate with several bolts:

1. Open the drawing `EXERCISE-CH5-START.DWG`.
2. Measure the diameter of the outer circle, by applying the `GETDISTANCE` command (alias `DI`) and selecting two opposite quadrants. Result should be `200`. Another possibility could be applying the `GETPROPERTIES` command (alias `LI`).
3. Select, without command, the inner circle. Apply the `PROPERTIES` palette (Ctrl + 1) and modify the radius to `30`.
4. We want the area of the metal plate, that is, between the outer and inner circles. Apply the `GETAREA` command (alias `AA`), set the Add option, Entity option and select the outer circle. The command displays: `Area = 31415.927, Perimeter = 628.319, Total area = 31415.927 ...`
