Continuing the mechanical project from Chapter 4, Structuring Projects and Following Standards, we are going to measure the volume by applying text and creating a table. DraftSight, as other DWG softwares, is dimensionless, we assume the length unit is millimeters (mm)

  1. Open the drawing PROJECT1-CH4.DWG.
  2. To calculate the volume of both parts, the best way is to use a new layer to create a contour. Create a layer called AUXILIARY, with a different color and activate it.
  3. With the POLYLINE command, create a closed polyline contouring the left view by applying the Arc option on the top fillets. The GETPROPERTIES command applied to this polyline indicates an area of 7653.429 mm2.
