Adding and browsing documents is one thing, but documents must often be manipulated in various ways. The most fundamental manipulation is versioning. In an ECM context, versioning means the controlled ability to modify the content of a document. In CM, you can't literally modify the content of a document, but you can create a new version of the document and modify the content of that new version in the process. We'll cover versioning in more technical detail in Chapter 7, Major CM Features. For now, let's just see how it works.
