Business-To-Business (B2B) electronic document exchange refers to transactions conducted between enterprises, and within an enterprise via the proprietary networks called Value Added Networks (VAN), or via the Internet. These transactions involve sending an electronic version of documents in a standardized format. B2B allows companies to achieve significant operational savings by reducing the costs of doing business, and enhancing the relationship between the trading partners. B2B also enables companies to comply with government mandated regulations, such as HIPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley. In this chapter we will learn about the following:
