Native Category Research Questions

In management research, the native categories approach avoids interviewers’ a priori understandings in the research process. This allowed us to dig deeply into managers’ unobservable and subjective perceptions, while using a naive line of inquiry in order to avoid leading questions that could impact interviewer expectations and answers. This approach also allowed us to ask our basic questions in dynamic ways. A more complex discussion of this technique can be examined in detail in Harris (2000). An example of the survey tool appears below. See the Appendix for the actual questions.
