In India, 100 million of its 1.2 billion people are online. It is the second most populous nation in the world and the third-largest Internet population. What makes India remarkable is that its share of the world’s Internet use was the same as Japan in 2011, 4.7 percent, but only a fraction of Japan’s online penetration. In India, merely 8.4 percent of all people are online, compared to 78 percent in Japan. Surely, the sheer size of this potential market in India is notable for search marketers.
