It is of little using knowing how to operate GMDSS equipment if upon picking up a microphone the operator does not know what to say.

Maritime Communications Operators are able to call stations on the correct frequencies, change to working frequencies or channels, pass information quickly and efficiently with minimum need for repetition and without causing interference to other stations. The importance of clear, efficient communication cannot be overstated.

Decide what you are going to say before you pick up the microphone. When passing information it is often useful to write it down first.
