I mentioned previously that your officers could have a number of attributes that might have different effects on a battle at various times. Here are some ideas that you might want to introduce into your own games:
Attack Modifier: Give the unit additional attack modifiers for having the officer in the unit. It could also be the case that the officer reduces the attack modifier score.
Morale Modifier: Morale makes a difference to whether a unit stands and fights or is reduced to a force running away from the field of battle. With the right type of officer in charge, this could increase the overall morale of the fighting unit.
